Novak Djokovic is one of the brightest talent in the ATP circuit at the moment and he proved it by beating Guillermo Canas in a straight set 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the Sony Ericsson Open title. Playing without any fear, his forehand shots were brilliant throughout the match and unforced errors, which are usually the norm for players of his age was surprisingly very low.
On the other hand, Canas who defeated world number 1 Roger Federer in the fourth round looks mentally exhausted and committed lots of mistakes. May be it was due to the Federer effect which takes a lot out from the opponent. Not only Canas struggled with his serve but also his backhand shot.
This victory means that Djokovic will improve his ATP ranking and will now take a number 7 spot. With his first ATP Masters Series title, the new tennis sensation became the youngest men’s champion in the tournament’s 23-year history. Quite a tremendous achievement for Djokovic especially when one take into consideration that the likes of Nadal, Federer, Sampras, Agassi and Courier has unable to attain that record.
